Thailand drives on the left side of the road, which can be disorienting for visitors from right-hand-traffic countries. Main highways are generally well-maintained and clearly signed in both Thai and English. However, rural roads can be narrow, winding, and shared with motorcycles, trucks, animals, and pedestrians. Be aware that Thai driving culture can be aggressive, with overtaking on blind corners and lane discipline that may seem chaotic. Motorcycles weave through traffic unpredictably. Always drive defensively, use your mirrors constantly, and avoid driving at night when possible, as unlit vehicles and pedestrians pose significant risks.
